Transformational Leadership - Transforming Individuals, Transforming Teams

Transactional leadership is simple to understand.  Perform to expectations and be rewarded. Fail to perform up to expectations and don’t receive the reward.

Transformational Leadership is less clear.  What is a Transformational Leader transforming?  The Transformational Leader transforms how the team member thinks about the team member’s role, and how the role contributes to the success of the team.  Transformation occurs through inspiring and motivating the team member to engage in behaviors that place the team first, understanding that when the team wins, the individual members of the team wins.
